Early this year we lost our baby, Spike, 16 weeks into the pregnancy and ARC (Antenatal Results & Choices) were there to help us through those dark days. So to raise funds for this little known charity that provides invaluable support we set out on ‘3 Peaks for Spike’ on 18 July.
A group of 8 distinctly average walkers + 2 supporters (aided by a couple of guides and a minibus with driver) set out to get the better of the 3 Peaks within 24hrs.
Well, we did it!!! We successfully nailed the 3 Peaks in 23hrs 38mins!!!!!
Casualties were minimal, and injuries were limited to just a few blisters. However we weren't too impressed with the weather. Ben Nevis rained pretty much all the way up and down, Scafell Pike rained pretty much all the way up and down and thankfully the weather cleared for Snowdon so we had fantastic views for the finale which made up for the cloud cover which was with us for the majority of the trip.
So in all it was a very damp 24hrs and not much fun constantly changing in and out of wet/dry clothes and living in the back of a minibus. Team fitness & appropriate wet weather gear ranged from very good to very average however we still managed to surprise the mountain leader by posting some decent times on the mountains - despite him expecting us to be a bunch of underprepared London softies!!
Huge, huge thanks to everyone who has sponsored us. The support has been immense, so much so that we have now raised a total in excess of £20,000, hence doubling our initial target of £10k!! Remaining donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/3peaksforspike
Final thanks to Mulebar for giving us the energy to get round the 3 Peaks in time!
