Mule Steve and the Godiva Trailriders back from the SSEC

Got back from Spain on Tuesday... what an excellent event! 200 people, including 12 GT’ers hit Saint Gregory in Catalunya last Friday for a weekend of singlespeeding, laughs & beer. Friday nights ride included a police escort through Girona, riding through the local hills before a beer & music stop overlooking the town. with a 1.30am finish it meant not a lot of sleep was had before being woken up by ‘Highway to hell’ being blasted out in the campsite to get everyone up for breakfast. The race start was amusing and took some people a while to find their bikes (hanging in the trees, hidden behind cars, etc... 5 laps of 5 miles, lots of ups & downs and 2 stream crossings per lap meant a tough ride, but definitely worth the trip. Being SSEC, there was lots of fancy dress, with the Godiva Trailrider girls winning the best costume award with their Alice in Wonderland outfits. Sunday’s social ride was amazing and doubly challenging due to the hangover from Saturday nights party. Some proper technical singletrack, monster climbs and descents. It was great to have 3 days of 20+ degrees, clear blue skies and dusty, technical trails – bring on the summer!
Roll-on Ireland next year...
